Goals and Strategies

GOAL: ADVOCACY AND THE VOICE OF PHYSICIANS

Determine and advance the membership’s position on the ethical, quality, scientific, educational, social, and economic aspects of medicine.

  • Determine and advance legislative and policy positions of our members by engaging patients, legislators, and key legislative stakeholders.
  • Advocate for the defense of the physician-patient relationship as the foundation of clinical care.
  • Advocate for physicians and patients by working with and educating all payors, employers and professional organizations to improve the physicians’ business and quality, ethical care.
  • Support and advocate for physicians in all practice settings.
  • Advocate for measures to improve physician wellness and prevent burnout.
  • Educate patients and community stakeholders on the reality of healthcare delivery and the burdens physicians face to deliver quality healthcare.
  • Advocate for improved health outcomes and access to appropriate health care for the entire community.

GOAL: MEMBER BENEFITS, PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

Ensure member value through services, involvement and practice support.

  • Assist physicians with the business and legal aspects of their medical practices, including emerging healthcare business models, opportunities for alliance and efficiencies to remain viable as our health system evolves.
  • Provide opportunities to members for networking, collaboration, education and CME.
  • Increase total membership.
  • Enhance communication to facilitate access to professional and personal resources for physicians.
  • Provide physicians with education and information to assist in improving physician leadership and business skills to adapt to the changing health care system.

GOAL: ETHICAL STANDARDS AND QUALITY OF MEDICAL CARE

Advance high ethical standards and quality medical care by example in all the Society’s activities.

  • Promote high ethical standards while protecting the autonomy of physicians to serve the needs of our patients.
  • Advocate for a practicing physicians’ role in the development and implementation of quality payment programs.
  • Assist members with successfully navigating quality programs, initiatives and obtaining incentive payments and avoiding penalties.
  • Advocate for physicians and patients with the Texas Medical Board.
  • Maintain a review and disciplinary mechanism with fair due process regarding the ethical conduct of physicians which work towards resolution of complaints from patients and physicians.

 


GOAL: COMMUNITY HEALTH AND EDUCATION

Promote community health issues by providing quality public and professional health education programs and advocating effective and equitable public health policy.

  • Partner with state and other agencies/organizations related to prevalent public health issues. Coordinate, facilitate and promote efforts of existing regional agencies and programs.
  • Provide materials and resources to physicians and public to promote accessible, improved health outcomes and specific health issues/concerns/programs among different ethnic and cross-cultural groups.
  • Increase HCMS visibility through partnerships with local charitable organizations and educate physicians on volunteer opportunities.
  • Educate the various public groups about health issues through affiliation with the McGovern Health Museum and other resources.
  • Facilitate access to resources and information for the public.

GOAL: ORGANIZATIONAL STRENGTH

Maintain a strong organizational infrastructure to serve our members.

  • Maintain professional staff and facilities to meet our growth. (Strategic Planning Committee)
  • Maintain a highly effective leadership structure and governing body reflective of the membership
  • Maintain sound fiscal management
  • Invest in technology to enhance administrative efficiency and facilitate information exchange.
  • Embrace the subsets of our membership through support and service (i.e. branches, councils, specialty societies.)
  • Maintain a response mechanism and be positioned to respond to issues of urgency.
  • Maintain a highly effective leadership structure and governing body reflective of the membership.
